About DACS
Designers Against Child Slavery is a Design Collective that enables creatives from all over the world to rise up against the sex trade. We want to see how effective artists can be when they start breaking the boundaries of culture, race, religion, and backgrounds to unite for a just cause, and use their unique styles and talents to give a voice to the voiceless.
We are a group of artists with a passion for making a difference in our world. We leverage our unique gifts and styles to produce artwork, to raise awareness of the injustice of sex trafficking and inspiring others to use their talents to impact the world around us.
About the sex trade
Over the past few decades, sex trafficking has reached epidemic proportions. Its estimated that one third of the worlds sex trafficking takes place in Asia, and 30% of the victims are children. Hundreds of thousands of girls and boys are believed to be enslaved in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and other countries in an underground industry that inflicts horrible emotional and physical pain to these young lives.
There are an estimated 2 million children enslaved worldwide, with approximately 225,000 women and children being trafficked out of South East Asia annually. The average age of the victims is between 10 and 18 years old, but children have been found as young as 5 years old. These victims are often required to have sex with as many as 15 men a day. If they refuse they are threatened, beaten, and starved. It is estimated that 50-90% of children rescued from brothels in parts of Southeast Asia are infected with HIV.
Although many people are removed forcibly from their families for the purpose of trafficking, many others go willingly, choosing to believe their traffickers promise of a better life. This deceit is all too common. A Cambodian study found that 85 percent of victims were trafficked by someone close to them, someone from within the family, a friend, neighbor or boyfriend.
There are many reasons for the dramatic increase in the trafficking of women and children such as globalization, domestic servitude, cheap labor, marriage, adoption, prostitution, child pornography including the more recent practice of live internet child abuse, and child sex tourism. Weak law enforcement and lack of community awareness as well as the lure of easy money have helped to make this industry boom.
Participate
Designers Against Child Slavery is on the hunt for extremely talented artists with a passion for using their talents to make a difference in the world. DACS runs on an invite only basis, but if you feel like that your skills in photoshop are up to par with the rest of our artists, please feel free to get in contact via the contact section.
DACS artists are expected to donate their time and skills to the cause. If you just want to become part of DACS for recognition, and don't have much interest in giving your time, this isn't a place for you. We love you, but please don't apply if your not going to be an active contributor and supporter.
Donate
If your not an artist, but someone who has a general interest in our cause. Please consider donating. DACS is under a 501 (c)3 status, so all of your donations are tax deductible. The money we receive through donations goes to many different things. The majority goes directly to Southeast Asia, to what ever group we are connected with at the time. But, the reality is that we do need some money to pay for operating costs, for example, website, domain name, printing, advertising etc...
We do, however, allow you to to specify how you would like the money to be used. We honor all requests for donation usage 100%. If you would like to donate directly to our fund for Southeast Asia, just let us know and thats where your money will go. If you want to help cover some of our operating costs, just let us know and thats how we will use it.
DACS believes that art is a very powerful form of communication. Artists down through the ages have used various forms of art to send messages to the public. So today's digital artists and Illustrators take their place in a long line of outspoken citizens of the world. Designers Against Child Slavery calls artists from all over the world to use their talents in order to give a voice to the voiceless. Stand up, fight for whats right and submit your 1,000 words today.

Exposé is DACS' first ever exhibition. The goal of Exposé was to raise awareness about sex trafficking though a medium that anyone can understand, art. The first gallery exhibition was held in Columbia, South Carolina on September 24th, 2010. To our amazement, well over 400 people showed up to support, making the gallery almost hard to navigate in! Thanks to the financial support of these people, DACS is now partnering with a group called The Blind Project, to play a small part in starting a sustainable way of life and restoration for women exploited by the commercial sex trade in Bangkok, Thailand. We will be doing this by donating funds raised at the exhibition to help The Blind Project build a screen printing shop that will employ women living in aftercare facilities. These print shops will help the women get back up on their feet, while letting them explore careers in fashion!
